Ninth Step

Island, drowned sleeping bag

A strange week - the start of winter. I took a day off to do some video and photography. I wandered into the withered badlands of the city centre. A freezing wind so early in the year. In the shadow of a monolithic block of flats I found a wide shallow pool and a drowned sleeping bag.
It's the full stop of a narrative.

The Eighth Step

I've always had a problem with narrative.
Primarily I can't do it.
I try and it turns to mush.
This video is of someone telling a narrative.
The subject is completely opaque.
So all I could do was watch and record it.
The title is Narrative. The sound is important.

Seventh Step

I was looking at a lumiere video of a stone circle in Scotland. And that raised the question of monuments and what is left behind and how it is used. Here is Monument, a video of a monument.

The Penshaw Monument is strange - an empty acropolis to a duke who is less accessible than the builders of stone circles

Sixth Step

In real terms, I am a cork.
I bob along with and on the currents of late capitalism. My job is the equivalent of a molecule of a oil reducing friction within a very small part of a large irrelevant machine.This machine was itself made from the parts of other machines, which are called Property, Law and Administration. These machines are under constant repair and adjustment.
As I bob along, I rest on small pools and then I can record what I see.
This is 'A Tree, Some Birds and a Plane'. I saw it this morning.

The Fifth Step

The 5th step is sometimes a slip or trip or slide.
The rain has gone, the "world" is no longer interested in China. The wind is blowing hard. A poster for the Chinese State Circus.

Fourth Step

Investigate the surroundings, slowly and with rapt attention to the details of events occurring in a series.

Third Step

The 3rd step is about accumulation, gathering objects and products to form the basis.

Nostalgia for origins probably starts at about this point.

A second step

A second step is always paradoxical.
Until I work out putting video here, I will put photographs.
And so a second step in achieved.
